Painters in National City

Walk two blocks here and you will pass a 1960s stucco tract house and a wood-sided home two generations older. Wood needs its own preparation: loose and failing paint scraped back, bare wood spot-primed, and any soft or rotted trim dealt with before a finish goes on, because paint over rot conceals it for a season and no longer. Older wood also tends to have many coats already on it, and the edges where old paint has failed have to be feathered or they telegraph through the new finish.

Close to the bay, mornings are damp for much of the year. Damp finds the vulnerable parts of a wood house first: the bottoms of trim boards, window sills, fascia and anywhere water sits rather than runs. Those are the places to look before painting, not after.
