What changes the price of wood staining
Ebenezer prices by the hours a job takes and how difficult the preparation is, which is why he looks at your project before quoting. These are the things that move it most. The estimate itself is free.
- How much surface there is. Square footage is the starting point — how many rooms, how many walls, how much trim.
- How much preparation it needs. This is the big one. Two homes that look alike can need very different amounts of washing, patching and sanding before a finish will hold.
- How many coats. A big colour change, or a bare or patched surface, needs more coats than freshening up a wall in its own colour.
- Height and access. Second storeys, stairwells and anything that needs ladders or scaffolding take longer and need more equipment.
- What else is included. Repairs, staining, waterproofing or cabinets alongside the painting all change the shape of the job.
Common questions
How long does it take to stain a deck, fence or door?
It depends on the size of the wood and its condition. Preparation is most of the job. Ebenezer looks at the wood at the free estimate and tells you what it needs and roughly how long it will take.
Do I have to choose the colour before you start?
Yes, and Ebenezer talks it through with you first. Stain reads differently on different woods, so the goal is a colour and finish that suit your home and let the grain show.
What stain do you use?
Dunn-Edwards and Sherwin-Williams, chosen for their quality and finish. Ebenezer will talk the colour and the sheen through with you before anything is opened, and he has a good eye for colour.
Do you guarantee staining work?
Yes. If something is not right, Ebenezer comes back and repairs it. He manages every project personally, so the person who did the work is the person who returns. Coming back to make it right? We never have a problem with that.
Are you licensed to stain wood in California?
Yes. Lemoons Painting holds California contractor licence 1120008, classification C-33, Painting and Decorating, held since 2024. You can look the number up yourself on the CSLB website. Ebenezer also holds OSHA 30, OSHA 10, scaffold and CPR-AED certifications.
