Painters in San Diego
The city itself is not one painting job, it is several. A Craftsman bungalow in North Park, a wood-trimmed house above the water in Point Loma and a beach cottage in Ocean Beach have almost nothing in common except the city limits — different eras, different materials and very different exposure. What they share is that the age of the housing makes preparation, not paint, the deciding factor.

North Park and the neighbourhoods around it are full of early-twentieth-century Craftsman and bungalow homes: wood siding, deep eaves, profiled trim, wood windows. That is hand work, and much of it predates 1978, which brings the lead question with it. Point Loma and Ocean Beach add marine exposure to older wood — salt air finds trim edges, sills and fascia, and any ferrous fastener will rust and bleed through a coating that was not primed for it.
One city, several climates
Within a few miles the conditions change completely. Coastal Ocean Beach and Point Loma stay damp and salty with a persistent marine layer; North Park and the inland neighbourhoods dry sooner and take more direct sun. The same house painted in both places would not weather the same way, which is why the assessment is of your house rather than of the city.
What prep looks like here
On older wood: scrape back what is failing, feather the edges, prime the bare timber, deal with soft or rotted trim before it is covered. Near the water: freshwater wash for salt, proper drying time, and treatment of any rusting metal before colour. Everywhere: masking that respects close neighbours and narrow lots. On pre-1978 homes, ask about lead-safe practices before work begins.

Do you paint Craftsman homes in North Park?
Yes, and they are hand work rather than spray work. Profiled trim, wood windows and deep eaves are cut in by brush. The preparation — scraping, feathering and priming bare wood — is what decides how long the finish lasts.
My house was built before 1978. What about lead paint?
Paint from before 1978 may contain lead, which is common in these neighbourhoods and changes how old surfaces may be prepared. Ask us directly about your home and you will get a straight answer rather than a vague one.
Is painting in Ocean Beach different from North Park?
Meaningfully so. Ocean Beach adds salt air, damp and rusting fasteners; North Park is drier and sunnier with more wood detail. Same city, different preparation.
Can you work around street parking and narrow lots?
Yes. Close neighbours and tight access are normal in these neighbourhoods; careful masking and a sensible plan for the day are part of the job.
